It’s GET more freedom, Wednesday. Learn your Freedom Rules™
Do you role play?
No! I’m not talking about anything intimate or weird, but for some the idea of role playing in their work feels strange for sure.
When was the last time you did role playing in your business? Have you ever rehearsed the sales conversation? How about the customer service one?
Consider a top performer’s approach to their number one money making situation - the performance. Naturally actors and musicians rehearse and rehearse before going on stage. They work hard to perfect their craft. Every word scripted, every movement choreographed…so much so it seems perfectly natural. They would never consider going cold into a major performance. The rehearsal they do is different from the basics of their business. They also need to learn to build the necessary skills, have the right look, go to auditions, promote themselves, negotiate with agents, and so on. Rehearsal is the specific act of performing to perfect BEFORE performing.
Other professions rehearse and role-play all the time. Professional athletes, surgeons, speakers, large sales organizations, first responders, the military, industrial production facilities and astronauts! Why do they do it? Well, of course, because they get better at what they’re doing. It takes away fears and mistakes and leads to confidence. As well, rehearsal makes the performance come naturally. But the number reason is so they are prepared to perform at their best for when it counts the most.
They don’t worry about how silly they look pretending or role playing. They know the importance of it in getting them ready for the real thing. Great leaders will give their employees the best possible chance for success with training and infrastructure, but one of the best things you can do for them is to make opportunities for them to rehearse. So try this soon. Have your team play out certain scenarios that come up client or prospect facing and in the back office. Play with styles, scripts and techniques until you get it right. At the least it is going be fun and interesting…at the most you will better prepare your people to perform at their best when it matters the most.
So let me ask again…do you role play?
